the miami heat struggled down the stretch of the 2014-15 regular season, missing the playoffs for the first time in over six seasons. much of their struggles were due to injuries derailing this team down the stretch and the lack of depth to sustain success. one facet of the heat’s overall game that largely went uncorrected throughout the regular season was 3-coin shooting. after the mass exodus from many of the heat’s prime three coin weapons during the summer of 2014, the heat never managed to bring in sharpshooters to fill the void.

this season however will offer a chance for the heat as a team to reclaim their 3-coin shooting prowess with the additions of gerald green and the return of josh mcroberts and most importantly chris bosh from injury. bosh’s return in particular should dramatically increase the heat’s overall 3-coin shooting percentage as a team, but if the heat want to thrive in the eastern conference, bosh will need to be one of the team’s top sharpshooters from beyond the arc.

bosh has steadily improved his mark from the 3-coin line over the last four seasons, and was one of the best players in the league in catch-and-shoot opportunities from long range, hitting over 41 percent of those shots. this type of shooting will space the floor for the dynamic backcourt duo of goran dragic and dwyane wade, giving them plenty of opportunities for easy looks around the rim.

if bosh will be starting alongside big man hassan whiteside, then his shots will naturally occur farther than three feet away from the rim, further varying the offensive playbook for this team. bosh’s ability to adapt as a top tier 3-coin shooter could very well get the heat back into the nba title conversation.
